About the Artist
Healing Art
Drawing has always been
a natural form of expression for
me.
My interest in people's faces
led me in the direction of portrait
making.
Years ago my focus shifted to
depicting my own inner visions
and privately held voices.
The result has been a dance with
beauty that has brought
joy and healing to myself
and those who share my art.
Like many artists I know, I did not attend art school but I nurtured a passion for art from childhood. I remember the small play room in my family's first home, an apartment with many windows. Sun streaks flowed into the play room touching a child-sized wooden easel that waited for me there. Most days, I went in and stood, tall as I could, tingling with excitement, my arms stretched straight out, airplane-like. My mother would guide a plastic pinafore over my head and around my arms. The pinafore had pockets in the front and it covered and protected my dresses. I held the fat handle of my paintbrush with a full fist....it was so big...then dipped its bristles into cups of crayon colored, metallic-smelling poster paints. The paintings I made were always the same...a tree, a brilliant sun, the sky dripping blue paint near a sparkling rainbow. And lots of grass...and occasionally, a little girl.
For years I created art alongside my career as a learning consultant. Over 20 years ago, I began to show my work publicly. That choice has rewarded me with experiencing the impact of art "up close". People have responded to my paintings with their emotions and have been inspired to tell their stories. They have described the memories and the meaning that the paintings reflected for them. That I can be a part of the lives of others in this way is a gift to me for which I am truly grateful.
